Symbolism and Architecture:
Since the site lies in close proximity to a very strong historic presence of Buddhism and Hinduism, we decided to derive our concept from their ideology of complete liberation.

The form of the Stupa (derived from the posture of a person in complete meditation) forms the central core of the building. The form of the core can also be interpreted as a vertical element stretching itself above in its quest for the supremely divine. Encircling the central core is the circumambulatory  that acts as the central circulation spine. The circumambulatory form is the physical symbolic manifestation of the wheel of life (Chakra). The eight spokes of the chakra, dissect the space along the circulation path into different indoor and outdoor experience zones.

The circumambulatory culminates with the water channel which lies along the axis of the rising sun (towards east) further culminating into an infinity edge pool overlooking the serene river Ganga.

One can also choose to climb up the green roof top with splendid views of the river and the ghats, and take one’s self on the journey of the search for inner peace.

Architectural language and materiality :

Different use of materials for each element has been used as a tool to enable the visitor to perceive the conceptual symbolism in its physical manifestation. The Chakra with its eight spokes is crafted out of the locally quarried Chunar sandstone, intended to be perceived as a continuity of the geographic materiality, emerging from the ground itself. Whereas the central core, the form of which resembles that of a person in meditation, is to be perceives as a hollow monolith. Hence, it is crafted out of exposed concrete.

The eight spokes of the chakra, dissect the space along the circulation path into dif- ferent indoor and outdoor experience zones.
